Anyone want to host a pair of friendly Canadians?

We are currently hosting Renee and Gab, a couple of backpackers from Canada at our house in Manilla. They are two very friendly, clean, and enjoyable people, and they expressed an interest in finding a place to stay tonight in Arcata so they could experience the town (and presumably, balance out their imposition on being houseguests, even though that are definitely far from imposing).

If anyone lives in walking distance to Arcata and wants to host overnight a pair of excellent houseguests who get my utmost recommendation (or knows someone who would like to host) give me a call at 832-9657.

Have a great day,

My family and friends were lucky enough to have the oportunity to see the circus last sunday at the SLAM festival!
First, let me thank you for being so wonderful... I am very impressed! I have a sister that is a member of a traveling circus (out of new mexico) and I used to dream of joing the circus myself as a child... and I kinda ended up on dead tour for a while, which within it's self was quite a circus... but without all the taent that you folks have!
My youngest son especially loved the performance! He was mesmarized by the trapease/ red rope tripod thing!

One of my girl friends looked at me at some point durring the show and said' "I wanna join the circus!" I said... "ME TOO!" Ya' all look like your lovin' what you do... and thats so awsome! and you spread that joy to our community and our children... and for all of that... I thank you!

Blessings be upon you
each and every one!
Keep on spreading the joy!
Innana

Yeah i know this is a bit dated but better late than never. So for those of you who saw the Humboldt Circus Show Name This Show. What did you think? (If you didn't see it check out some clips on youtube - posted by humboldtcircus) I met someone in San Francisco who loved the show. He said he liked the through line of sexuality through the ages. I thought this was funny since our variety show didn't have a through line.

I've tried to post a this before, but for some reason, it didn't registrar and folks couldn't read what I had written. So, I'm going to attempt to write it out again and hopefully this time, we'll have more responses,

Ok, so...a little info and background. I'm in Israel, and working on a project out here to grow herbs for the community. Also, wanting very much to have a program available for kids and their parents to learn about plants and how they communicate with us on all levels. It's really something that isn't being done here and I would like to bring this opportunity to light. I need some help. That's way i'm writing this request. We have a few green houses, so climate is not an issue. We need seeds! All different kinds, but organic. Herbs and winter vegetables.

The list for herbs:Elder flowers ,Yarrow ,Sage ,Rose hips ,Echinacea,Mullein,Astragalus,
Poke Root,Elecampane ,Thyme.

We are asking for 30 seeds each be sent to Israel.
We are asking for donations, since this project can really use all the help it can get and we really don't have the funds to get these seeds. Also, we request that the seeds are from your own garden and collected by you. It's a beautifal thing to know that the seeds that we are receiving are from people who cared for these plants and havested the seeds themselves. There is a story there and it makes it interesting to explain where these seeds came from and who cared for them. We like telling it this way.

Our request for organic Veggie seeds:
Celery ,Chinese leaves ,Dark greens ,Leeks ,Mushrooms, Squashes ,Winter roots ,Winter salads.

If it's not too much trouble to send the seeds with labels so we know what is what.

If you have any questions please feel to send me a message.
Thanks so much for helping us with this project. I mean a lot to us and the many people who's lives will be changed by your seeds.

If you are interested, please let me know and I can give out the address of where to send the seeds.

~peace~

Join ALBINO! Afrobeat this Saturday in Arcata!!

Its been two years since ALBINO! last threw down the "Heavy Heavy Afrobeat" in Arcata.
Get ready!

This Saturday:

SF's "Best World Music" Band,
ALBINO! Afrobeat-
The 12-piece Afrobeat bohemoth complete with 4-piece horn section, dancers, costumes, and full band choreography will be playing Arcata at an all night benefit.
Dont miss it!
full details @
www.inferknow.org

For free ALBINO! music , pics, and video go to:
www.albinoband.com

*************************
The Bay Area-based SF Weekly Music Award-winning ALBINO! is a 12-piece
Afrobeat ensemble that honors the fiery legacy of Nigerian musical icon
and political outlaw
Fela Kuti. ALBINO’s high-energy grooves and explosive stage show thick
with hypnotic percussion, heavy horns, African dance, outrageous
costumes and infectious group choreography have firmly established the
band as the West Coast’s premier Afrobeat act.

According to the SF Weekly, “ALBINO’s ass-inspiriting percussive engine
comes from a rhythm section of local all-stars; together, they form
rhythms based in the West African tradition which holds at its heart the
inseparable union of drumming and dance. Atop the band's rhythmic
maelstrom ride tightly figured five-part horn lines. The section's ‘heavy
heavy’ bottom end features a snarling dual baritone-sax yawp. This is
world music that lives up to the name.”

MAPS club at HSU (interested?)

Hey Folks,

I am in the process of starting a club at HSU based around the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies or MAPS. www.maps.org It is to some degree a complement to the NORML club that already exists at HSU, in the sense of bringing together a community of people interested in seeing psychedelics recognized as a legitimate tool. MAPS has been promoting and funding legitimate psychedelic research since 1986 and currently has several projects funded including psilocybin, marijuana, I believe LSD, as well as a scheduled MDMA project at Harvard. They are one of the only (and probably the major) organizations pushing for the legitimate study of these compounds. I have been in touch with MAPS and are very eager to cooperate with me in coordinating the club on campus. RIck Doblin, the founder of MAPS, has informed me that this would be the first such MAPS club on a college campus. They have sent me a nice big box of pamphlets and journals and calendars for the club and I am very excited about the opportunity to form this community. So, I am curious if anybody here (especially students, but it would be an open club to members of the local community as well) would be interested in attending the club meetings, events, etc. or helping in any way (as far as being an officer or any other help you may be willing to provide). I am mostly trying to get a feeling for how much interest in this type of community there would be. So, feel free to contact me on the list or privately to let me know what you think and whether you'd like to be a part, either passively or actively, both of which are more than fine. BTW - if you are interested please let me know if you are a student, as I need a few more ID numbers to start the club. Anyways, hope to hear from you.

Cheers, Kevin

Looking to make connections and friends on road trip down the coast to Xara!

Hi! My partner and I are flying into Portland on April 10th, and hoping to aquire a vehicle and road trip it to Xara Project (weekend of the 19th) and fly out of San Deigo the 24th. In addition to looking for a vehicle (preferably one we can sleep in if need be) we are spinners looking for others to connect with while we are in Portland and traveling the coast to Xara.
If you know of anything vehicle wise (maybe someone going to Xara who owns a bus we could fly down there and pay them a deposit/ rental/ airfare and they'd drive back) or any fire gatherings, great company along the way, let us know? We'd really like to meet some new friends and have a great adventure. We are with the Playa-Q on the Playa, and will be with them and the Mutaytor at Xara. Thanks! Tesla

this came from a colleage - git 'er done, freaks! ~

The Willits Shakespeare Co. Is looking for variety act to fill our soap box
stage for an annual event in Willits,Ca. The name of the event is The
Bard-B-Q & Tomato Toss. It is a non-profit benefit to raise funds for our
upcoming Summer Youth Production of "Much Ado About Nothing". The venue is
a circus tent located at 1195 South Main St. Willits, Ca. 95490 and will
take place on july 15th, 2006 from noon to 10p.m. Our headliner is
Aphrodesia, but the day consists of music, barbeque, beer, a hour long
improv designed for the audience to throw tomatoes (water balloons) at the
actors. We have just added a soap box stage for various acts. There will
be no power on this stage so music will have to be acoustic, but otherwise a
fun oppurtunity for anyone to throw down their stuff and work for tips. So
if anyone knows anyone who is interested please have them contact Billy
Hetherington @ (707) 459-1831 A.S.A.P.

All Circus Monkeys and Monkey- relatives:

Congratulations on a superb show!

It was very inspiring to see such a turnout as well as the audience appreciation. Very well done!

Does anyone have pictures from either rehearsals or the actual show or can we get frame shots from the videos? I'd like to put them on the webpage as we have for shows past.

Clarinet Craig

PS. Hope you've all recovered from your collective hangovers! :-)

My that sounds funny. Anywho there's always something last minute the night before a show, eh. So i need Death (tradional long cloak, yatta, yatta) to come to our show tommorow- and ideally fri and sat too. I'm not sure if the Death we planned for can come and i'm not sure if he even has the costume. So i need you to come dressed up as Death and see our show for free and only have to get up for one tiny part at the end of our show. Sounds like a pimp job,eh. Ideally you are also helping out before the show too.,
Have a Death costume and know how to act like Death. We need you to come by the Green and Gold Room of Founder's Hall At Humboldt State University before 8pm (ideally by 7:30-i'll be there from 5:15 on and if you wanna help w/ stuff there's more to do) If you can play the part message me asap. and call me at eight two too oh nine three for. Thank you!!! P.S. One other thing we need- a long orange extension chord. Contact me or come by 5-8 in green and gold if you have one. Thanks again, Solenne

We would love it if you could videotape the Haunting of Circo Magnifico this weekend (see events) -thurs, fri, sat 8:30- 10:30. In exchange you get to see our show free and party with us:) Ideally you have your own video camera and tripod (i know someone w/ a camera that woudl let us use it- btu no tripod) and you can come to the show thurs- fri, and sat. if you can't come all three nights respond anyway- we might need to use multiple people- or if your camera can come but not you finding someone to operate it should be easy. Ideally you can also make copies for us and be reinbursed- but if not we can find someone to do that job too. Thank you- this show is going to be amazing. I can't wait!

Want to get into the show for free? There are lots of fun jobs for you to do. In our Midway you can run a game like guess your age and weight, perform in our sideshow, or sell concessions. We also need help with security, tickets, and ushering. All jobs require you to be dressing in haunting attire- like a ghost, ghoul, skeleton, or someone of the undead.

Haunting of Circo Magnifico Midway/Preshow

This comes right before the show starts...

MIDWAY/ PRESHOW

The audience waits outside pre-show. Death, with his scythe and hourglass waits silently outside to get in as well. Security has the word "Paranormal" right above "Security" on their shirts. (?) A series of morbid and spooky pieces of artwork should be on display for the audience to study as they wait. The Necromancer's Minions, such as Zombie clowns, the Ghoul, and Vampire may be seen mixing with the audience outside. No Ghosts may yet be seen. (?)

Th Midway will include a fortune teller (Lizzy) who tells only bad fortune, possibly Shantaram, ghoul, zombie, vampire- undead performers. Ghosts start to come in doing tricks – all directed by Necromancer.

When the show is ready to start, the black curtains, covering the door, gently part, as if on their own accord, inviting those congregated out inside along with the beckoning of the Necromancer's Minions. Death walks slowly to the front row where Death's Seat is reserved with cobwebs covering it. The Medium, in a trance, in a box, remains frozen on stage. The Necromancer's minions disappear, the spooky music plays as the audience takes their seats. The lights flicker and the Necromancer enters, cackling.

Haunting of Circo Magnifico Tentative Pieces

Here are the tentative pieces for the show!

TENTATIVE PIECES

Any number of Circus acts can be inserted here...)

Postcard the French Lady postcard where they have a lady posing, and the lights are on, and 5 seconds later she has minus 1 apparel until she bears all, or implies bearing all.
A pile of poi dancers- 2-5 As the music build they come out of the pile and dance with poi- there' lots of partner poi and physical contact, there could be contact dancing. I think it would be cool for one person to start with poi and to take the poi off the next person (after doing some partner stuff with one set). These poi could double as clothing. I know how to make them and think they could make good sleeves or a skirt. Let me know if you're into it. Feel free to comment on these and post your own piece ideas.

Swing Dancing

Clown Hat and Cane act

Club juggling act.

Hola hoop

Unicycle

Postcard Return of the post card lady, this time instead, there's the fat man. =)
Skeleton Dancers – to the tune of Dem Bones
Blackout. Make the room as dark as possible. Dancers come out wearing blacklight skeleton costumes. Pieces of velcro can be put on the dancers (belts or spirit gummed?), and painted over with the glow in dark paint, so they can have the illusion of removing ribs, fingers, or even a femur which will be devil sticks which will then be manipulated.

Tamer with Animals

Rola bola

Burlesque Dancers

Glass Walking

Diabolo

Contact Juggling

Acrobatics

Globe Walking

Marionette
The piece begins by the Necromancer being the string puller making Marionette perform. The character is a princess type character, the picture of femininity- and she hates it. You can see the discontent in her face as the piece goes on. The marionette is dragged on by the Necromancer. She slowly rises and picks up a club and does a couple tricks, then two, does some club spinning, and then three- juggles clubs and does tricks. The music builds and the person pulling the strings is in control until she begins to throw some club tricks that s/he's not controlling.
Marionette smiles when she does these unexpected tricks and the string master gets upset. Then Marionette throws the clubs back at her/him and while s/he's distracted breaks free. The music becomes faster and louder as she dances a dance to try to break free from this ghostly world. She throws herself against an invisible wall- and similar moves. The Necromancer keeps trying to catch her and possibly does for a moment and gets a hold of an arm- but she breaks free again. Marionette at last is able to express her true independent creative self and break free from
control. At the peak of energy in her dance she collapses. The lights go dark and the fog machine goes as Death carries her off. Someone (who?) says, ”She’s dead.”

Haunting of Circo Magnifico Plot

There have been some changes for the plot. Here I have the tentative ideas for the plot, which include the revised intro and ending. Comments please :)
INTRO
The stage is lit by a red glow with a yellow tone. The medium stands alone in her fortune telling box. A person (who?) comes up and puts a quarter in her box. She sings a song telling of the story of the Circo Magnifico. It is vague and poetic and enticing. As the song ends the smoke machine blares, the music shifts and we are transported to 1929.
The performers (possibly other minions too) come on stage performing different circus skills. (Big top 1929 style) Charivari. Creepy waltz music plays. The Necromancer walks by the group and chooses people to freeze and unfreeze illustrating his control he has over the performers.

Then the Necromancer and the Ringmaster make their deal selling the performer’s souls to the Necromancer in exchange for the circus’s fame.
A couple pieces follow – big top styles- but there’s something odd going on showing the control the Necromancer has. (How is this shown?)
An “accidental” fire ensues. A piece goes on through the fire and turns to chaos.
INTERMISSION –People do real fire outside
After intermission the lighting has turned darker and redder. Pieces become darker, more mature, and the music becomes more deranged.
…
After the marionette piece in which she escapes control by the Necromancer everyone starts filtering out performing while they exit into the audience as a fog machine blares and death welcomes them into the audience signaling their death as they all realize they too can be free and die.
The Necromancer and Medium are left to confront one another. The Necromancer tries to take control but in the end he loses.
…
Medium
The Price of Mischief is Mischief itself. The wicked are punished, (Addresses the Circus)

SO i'm choreographing a partner poi piece for the haunting of circo magnifico show (see other postings for more info) Here’s the tentative cast for The Haunting of Circo Magnifico. The show will be the nights Oct 27-29th. We will also need to come to dress rehearsals tues and wed the 25th and 26th of Oct. (time tba –probably 6-9 -allowing for some come and go) We will also have rehearsals the couple weeks prior to the show at circus meetings (t and th 5-7 forbes complex 201 at HSU). We have five people in the piece but i'd like a sixth so we have an even number- i'll teach partner poi moves. We will probably meet this fri in the green and gold rm in founders hall at hsu 2-4 and then we'll be meeting every weekend (in addition to some meetings during circus) time tba. Message me if interested or come by circus today - forbes 201 5-7 or come to the green and gold tomorow 2-4.

Haunting of Circo Magnifico Piece Ideas

here's some piece ideas from various sources- feel free to suggest more or comment on these- they may or may not happen- but the pile of poi should happen and so will the marrionette piece (my pieces).

Hat and Cane act

Club juggling act.

Zombie Clown Pirates Verses the Busty Amazons of Hessia!
Zombies rapiers and red shoes, pirate hats and squeaky noses, drooling blood and eyepatches, occasionally moaning "brains", versus scantily clad exotic dancer types with scimitars.
Possible plot: Amazon queen gets captured, falls in love with the pirate captain’s parrot, and they take off to go build a nest together.
or,
The Amazons come and rape and pillage the zombie pirates, carrying them off and performing all sorts of atrocities to them (the Amazons could be changed to simple medieval villagers if it would be funnier).

Opie’s clown juggling piece

Hola hoop

Poi Tap Dancing

Sideshow

Postcard Return of the post card lady, this time instead, there's the fat man. =)

Skeleton Dancers
Blackout. Make the room as dark as possible. Dancers come out wearing skeleton-like glow in the dark body paint, and glow in the dark skull masks. Dancers heads must always face audience (unless you want to make full helmets out of the masks). Dancers can do things like lifting the masks off, giving the illusion of taking off their heads. Also, if the music is loud enough, pieces of velcro can be put on the dancers (belts or spirit gummed?), and painted over with the glow in dark paint, so they can have the illusion of removing ribs, fingers, or even a femur...
And/or someone doing poi with skeleton hands

Movement Society

Bed of Nails

Tamer with Animal

Burlesque Dancers

Glass Walking

World Peace clown act

Knife Juggling The Ghoul enters, carrying a box of swords. The Vampire is lounging on the edge of the stage.

The Vampire
What have you got there?
Ghoul
Oh, these are the master's spirit swords, capable of cutting up a soul that cannot normally be touched. We never use 'em though. The Master commands the ghosts and the rest of us. They're just taking up room. I have to lug 'em around, so I figured I'd toss 'em. (The Ghoul picks up the swords and juggles them then tosses them into the incinerator. The Vampire tries to stop the Ghoul but is too late.)
Vampire
You mortuary moron! Do you have ANY idea how Rare those swords were? (The Necromancer enters, bellowing)

Glow Dancers

Acrobatics

Globe Walking

Marionette
The piece begins by the Necromancer asking the string puller to make
Marionette perform. The character is a princess type character, the
picture of femininity- and she hates it. You can see the discontent in
her face as the piece goes on. The marionette is dragged on by the string
master. She slowly rises and picks up a club and does a couple tricks,
then two, does some club spinning, and then three- juggles clubs and does
tricks. The music builds and the person pulling the strings is in control
until she begins to throw some club tricks that s/he's not controlling.
Marionette smiles when she does these unexpected tricks and the string
master gets upset. Then Marionette throws the clubs back at her/him and
while s/he's distracted breaks free. The music becomes faster and louder
as she dances a dance to try to break free from this ghostly world. She
throws herself against an
invisible wall- and similar moves. The Necromancer says, “Get her!” The
string person keeps trying to catch her and possibly does for a moment and
gets a hold of an arm- but she breaks free again. Marionette at last is
able to express her true independent creative self and break free from
control. At the peak of energy in her dance she collapses. The lights go
dark and the fog machine goes as she disappears. Or- Death can carry her
off. The string puller says, ”She’s dead.”
Necromancer- “No one is aloud to die around here!”
-She has died by breaking free of the control of the Necromancer and becoming liberated and creatively performing her own creation.

Haunting of Circo Magnifico Characters

I'll be posting topics on the Haunting of CIrco Magnifico (Oct 27-29 in Founders 118 at HSU) Here's a preliminary list of characters... Make comments.

Character descriptions:

Death: Someone tall or in lifts, under a voluminous black robe. A skull mask is hidden behind a black veil to assist hiding the human under the mask. Skeletal hands can be put on extensions to stick out passed the person's regular hands, which remain hidden beneath the sleeves. Death wields a rusty scythe and/or an hourglass. He remains silent to everyone, particularly while he waits with the outside audience. He moves slowly and ominously, and with purpose.

The Necromancer: (Shea) Male or Female, The Necromancer is an evil wizard or sorceress or demon who manipulates the dead. They will be wearing magical robes with TEETH on strings, bones maybe in their hair, and some kind of black face paint that look like warpaint. Various pouches and baubles hang from their belt. Their general attitude is arrogant, as you would expect of someone who traps the souls of human beings. Crafty and Manipulative, the Necromancer runs the show. Lawyeresque.

Ringmaster: Old ringmaster of the living circus. He may be killed by the Necromancer, be taken under his control, turned into a vampire, turned into his pet?

The Medium: (Emily) Witchesque, psychic. The Medium has been trapped in trance in a box. Why?- possibly because when she was casting a spell to make the circus famous it backfired and the Necromancer took her prisoner-or? The Medium dresses in bright colors, reds and golds, wielding a crystal ball. The Medium is mysterious, psychic fortuneteller. Her psychic powers lured the Necromancer to sustain her life.

Zombie Clowns: Typical Zombies with poor motor control and speech abilities, possibly drooling. Occasionally moaning the word "Brains". The Zombie clowns in this case may be clown pirates wearing clown noses and pirate hats. Perhaps one of the zombie clowns is headless.

The Ghoul: (Mike?) Possibly hunchbacked, a skilled juggler (able to juggle knives) and diabolist.

The Vampire: (Julie) Necromancer's right-hand undead critter. The vampire is clearly the most aristocratic and should have a snobbish attitude to go with it. The other undead critters fear the Vampire, which the vampire enjoys. The vampire should be dressed smartly, featuring fangs. Sultry and sexy, the vampire looks on everyone with a hungry gleam in his or her eyes. She may be interested in drinking the audiences’ blood, or may be feeding off the Necromancer or she may be romantically or politically involved with the Necromancer.

The Ghosts: All members of the Circo Magnifico who died in the 1920s, unlike the rest of the cast, the ghosts are entirely in black, white, gray and sepia. This will include most of the skill acts. They're generally dressed from the twenties era.

Burlesque dancers
French lady/ fat man –postcard models
Monkey- minion type
Acrobats
Poistas
Jugglers
Contortionist
(Hobo) Clowns –silent but emotionally reactive
Raunchy Comedian- very relaxed, always looking at the girls
Skeleton Dancers: Dancers with glow in the dark(?) skeleton costumes. Undead critters that dance at the Necromancer's command. –Possibly doing hat and cane.

Haunting of Circo Magnifico Curse ideas

Curse Ideas-of what causes the circus to have to continue to perform as ghosts. Make comments.

Idea1- The curse comes from a figurine or amulet that the Necromancer got to take control of the circus and make it their own

Idea 2- my favorite- The Ringmaster comes to the Necromancer to trade souls of circus performers for fame. The deal is done with the devilish Necromancer. When the circus “accidentally” burns down, the performers must cont. to perform as ghosts.

Idea3- The Necromancer was jealous of the fame of the circus and put a curse on them so they won’t succeed without him and he’ll get their attention

Roots Reggae: MIDNITE @ Mazzottis Friday September 9th

ARCATA– Midnite will perform at Mazzottis on Friday, September 9th.
Residents of St. Croix, in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Midnite has emerged as a new force in the roots reggae scene since their founding in 1989 by brothers Vaughn (lead vocals, songwriter) and Ron Benjamin (keyboards, musical director). Rounding out the rhythm section of the band are Christian Molinna -Curet (drums), Ryan Wilson (bass) and Jerry Simon (guitar).
Armed with a strong and uncompromising musical vision, Midnite delivers an old-school roots sound matched with powerful lyrics that address various issues such as racial oppression, misrepresented social history and fundamental Rastafarian teachings. At a time when older reggae artists are rehashing the same stale material they have been touring with for twenty years, Midnite is rewriting the rules for live reggae by never playing the same set, and releasing a constant flood of new material.
Midnite developed their sound playing small clubs in Washington D.C., where they recorded their debut album “Unpolished” and the follow-up “Ras Mek Peace.” Reggae journalist Adjua Dubb reported that these early Midnite shows “mirrored going to
-MORE-
church...they left a deep impact on the reggae scene here.” The band later returned to St. Croix to make refinements for their third album “Jubilees of Zion” before embarking on their first full tours of the U.S.
During the past three years, Midnite has been hard at work in their St. Croix Afrikan Roots Lab, releasing ten more full-length albums through independent record label Rastafaria. The concert at Mazzottis in May will be Midnite’s sixth appearance in Humboldt, following a memorable performance at Reggae on the River in 2004.
Midnite will be joined by DJ Swami I of the Green-Up Sound System from Santa Cruz. Swami I describes Midnite’s music as “reggae stripped down to the bare roots.” The Green-Up Sound will be spinning reggae records to warm up the crowd when the doors open at 10:00 p.m.
Tickets to the event are $23 in advance and $25 at the door on the night of the event. Presale Tickets are available at The Metro (Arcata) The Works (Arcata or Eureka), Wildhorse Records (Garberville) or online at Ticketsweb.com. Patrons 21 and over with ID are welcome to attend this event.
Mazzottis is located at 773 8th Street, on the Plaza in Arcata. Any Additional information can be requested by calling the Trinity Hotline at (831) 359-1839, or e-mailing trinitymlk@hotmail.com.
-END-

i'm on my way from alaska to burningman. it's been quite an amazing trip, but now my trusty van broke down and is waiting for a new timing chain. the dealership (yikes) was hoping to get it done today, but parts didn't get here, so it looks like i'm supposed to hang out here for a few more days. i found a good exhibit at accident gallery, but not much else happening in eureka. i would love to meet some like minded folks in arcata. please call if you have any good suggestions for stuff to do or say hello if you see me juggling around town. i'm currently staying in a cheesy motel in eureka but would prefer to stay with someone in arcata since that seems to be more my kinda place. i'm a damn good house guest and i can offer a one way ride to the playa when my van is fixed.

Hey Guys...
So this is the weekend of October 7th. I'll be getting back from Peru just a little before this and plan to attend. I'd love to see some Humboldt representation there, and perhaps a ride back up to Arcata? If you can help with the ride let me know (I don't have a lot of stuff but would like to bring about one person's volume worth :).

They are looking for performers still for their public show... hint, hint.

Haunting of Circo Magnifico Ending

This is my idea for the ending- coming directly after the marionette piece (which i pasted to make it easier to understand what jsut happened) Make comments - and help fill in holes.

Necromancer
“No one is aloud to die around here!”
She has died by breaking free of the control of the Necromancer and becoming liberated and creatively performing her own creation.
Everyone starts filtering out performing while they exit into the audience as a fog machine blares and death welcomes them into the audience signaling their death as they all realize they too can be free and die.
The Necromancer and Medium are left to confront one another. The Necromancer tries to take control but in the end he loses.
…
The Medium
The Price of Mischief is Mischief itself. The wicked are punished, (Addresses the Circus) Rest in Peace, (To the Audience) Go in Peace. Good night.
Haunting of Circo Magnifico Intro

Comments please for intro...

INTRO
The stage is lit by a red glow with a yellow tone. The ghosts (possibly other minions too) come on stage performing different circus skills. Creepy waltz music plays. The Necromancer walks by the group and chooses people to freeze and unfreeze illustrating his control he has over the ghosts. The ghosts have a look of chipping forgotten mannequins.

Medium Song	The Medium sings her song after being rolled out to the center of the stage front. The song explains how the circus came under the curse, which forces them to continue to perform as ghosts. The performers onstage act out the various elements of the song including the past, present and fate of the circus. At the end of the song the monkey rolls the medium offstage.

Hallo all you lovelies.

Jana and I just moved into our new home in Arcata last Friday. We are still heavily in the unpacking mode. But I'm really happy to be back in town and looking forward to connecting with everyone.

My new cell number is 832-9657. Feel free to give me a ring. I would really love to catch circus class when it happens. What day do classes begin?

I would also like to catch the meetings if they are open to non-admin. But I have no info about 'em. I also need to get hold of Shea because I have his sweater. I'm wearing it now, actually. Shea, I heard you are living at Jeriah's old house. That's about 4 blocks away from me.

That's my post. I'm indescribably happy to be back in arcata with the intent of settling. I missed you all and can't wait for a new season of circusness.

Love and Lion Tamers,

I know I know. ANOTHER show at Dell'Arte! Won't these guys ever stop pumping out the hits? Apparently not it seems.

This weekend they're having a theatre company from the Catskills come and perform their magic. I saw them perform some of their stuff last week at the Ensemble Theatre Festival. They put a whole new spin on Punch and Judy and translate some of those strange converstations that we've all had with our partners. This is EXCEPTIONAL Work that everyone should come and see!!!!

If you do come by be sure to pop by concessions and say hi as that's my official post these days. . . concessions all the time!

Dell'Arte Mad River Festival 2005
June 17- July 23

Dell'Arte presents NaCl Theatre in "The Confessions of Punch & Judy':
“The Confessions of Punch and Judy” is a wild all-night argument that captures the anarchic spirit of the classic Punch and Judy puppet show. Slapstick, stylish, viciously honest and full of surprises, the show is performed by two virtuoso performers who leap between realism and surrealism, exposing the horror and beauty of a relationship.
“The Confessions of Punch & Judy” opens Thursday, June 30 and continues Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 1-3. All performances are $13 general, $11 for students/seniors and $8 for children under 12. All shows are at 8 p.m. For tickets or more information call 707-668-5663 x20, or reserve online.

HSU Orientation and Shelter

To the Tribe –

I’ll be going to HSU for their orientation from Friday 7/8 until Sunday 7/10. They have a masters program in social work that I’ve been checking out (I’m graduating Cal this summer) and it feels like the best fit. The faculty returns emails THE SAME DAY, which is unheard of at other schools. Plus, two weeks ago was my first visit to Arcata and I LOVED IT. The nature, the mellowness, the more intimate community… Never before have I met so many friendly folk that strike up conversations on the street.

So next weekend I have the option of staying in the student dorms for $62/night. They provide meals and linens and all the amenities which I don’t need and can’t afford. I'd much rather camp out on the quad.

Does anyone know of a student cooperative house in the area that would let me stay in exchange for work/cooking/cleaning and a fair donation? I’ve been living in the University Students Cooperative Association for the past 4 years and my last home was Lothlorien (the vegetarian naked one).

Also, somebody on the Greyhound mentioned The Endeavor to shower, eat, and do laundry. Are there any other places for travelers/vagabonds/prospective HSU students on a budget?

I’m grateful for the help.

Michael

So some of us are meeting thurs nights in Eureka to practice fire and create choreography. Sadly I couldn't get a ride last thur to Eureka :( We should definately have more people on call fore carpooling- and many people would love to practice more than once a week. So - can you or a friend host a fire night? Arcata would be the ideal place since many of us are in Arcata but somewhere nearby could work too. Just pick a night and a yard to spin in and we'll a blast:)

Sunday evening a young girl was last seen hoopin in front of the Medical tent at the Summer Arts Festival with it Anyone know her? It was my favorite hoop, black and white striped like a king snake, not diagonal.

As much as I like to share, and give things away, I would really love to see this hoop returned to me. Some parent must have had a difficult time putting it in their car, it is BIG!

Anyway, if you know where my hoop is, I would gladly trade any other I have for it! Thanks!

Perhaps if it is seen at the plaza this weekend, could someone grab it for me, politely of course? I will be at Harmony Festival.

THANKS ALL!

Oregon is hosting its first regional burn the first weekend of June. I wanted to pass on the info to the NorCal Tribes because the location will be off of Highway 101 near Waldport OR. This is not horribly far from your region and we would love to see some shining faces from the south join us. To get further details check out www.burningmanportland.com
